Other Thoughts FAQs

1. Do I need to buy any hardware?

No, all you need is a computer with Internet access. That's the beauty of a web-based software product. Also, Ninth Brain supplies you with free downloads of any program you may need to run your Ninth Brain Suite.

2. Is it difficult to set up?

It certainly is not difficult to set up your Ninth Brain Suite. You will be guided every step of the way. As with any software program, you are encouraged to take your time and give careful consideration to the instructions while setting up each area. We provide tools and tips along the way, such as an electronic upload feature for initially entering individual and certification information. Scattered throughout the system are quick add and mass update features which greatly decrease the time needed to enter data. If you just don't have the time or the staff for the initial setup, Ninth Brain will (for a fee) do it for you. Simply ship us the data (in electronic form or a hard copy), and we will get you up and running in no time.

3. How is my data secured?

Communication between your browser and our software is secured using the SSL protocol (secured socket layer). This provides for both domestic-grade and international-grade 128-bit encryption of all communications between your PC and Ninth Brain's servers. Ninth Brain's servers are secured at Iserv, one of the premier sources of secured hosting space in the Midwest. Iserv data center provides the power, bandwidth, and scalability necessary to make your business operational. The electromechanical systems are fully redundant - from the power sources and cooling systems, to the fiber backbones and network components. Iserv has multiple Internet connections and a highly available routing/switching architecture. This means that your connection is not only secure, but it is extremely reliable.

4. What are the System Requirements?

For optimum performance, Ninth Brain recommends the following requirements for Ninth Brain Suite:

• The latest version of your favorite Internet browser. Ninth Brain Suite has been tested with and supports Internet Explorer 6.0 and newer, Mozilla Firefox 1.0 and newer, and Safari 3.0 and newer.

• 56K modem or higher. A high speed/broadbrand connection is recommended for viewing interactive education content.

To fully access all that NBS has to offer, Ninth Brain recommends the following, which are available as free downloads:

• Microsoft Windows Media Player

• Adobe Acrobat Reader

• PowerPoint Viewer

• Real One Player

5. Can I use Ninth Brain Suite if I have a Mac instead of a PC?

Users of NBS should not have any problems using a Mac computer. They will be able to view their record, take courses, and perform most of the tasks associated with NBS. Likewise, administrators will be able to perform most functions of NBS using a Mac. However, there may be specific areas where a PC is required.

6. How does a subscription to Ninth Brain Suite work?

Once your company makes the decision to use NBS as their compliance management tool and completes the required data input, NBS is ready to use. Your Site Director or other individual with security assignments will assign your initial logon name and password, and then you will be ready to access any of the modules to which your company subscribes. You are able to change your password at any time.

7. How do I access Ninth Brain Suite from any computer?

Assuming the Internet browser meets NBS's minimum requirements, you can truly access NBS anywhere the Internet is available. Once you access the Internet, just go to http://ninthbrain.com and sign in with your personal logon name, password, and company ID. It is that simple.

8. Is the online education accredited?

All online education offered as Ninth Brain Suite courses are fully accredited for EMS certifications/licenses by Continuing Education Coordinating Board for EMS (CECBEMS) and for nursing licenses by American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). The courses are available for all to take. State requirements for certification levels dictate if you will receive credit toward your license/certification renewal.

9. What types of courses are available?

Ninth Brain Suite presents over 100 accredited courses as part of the subscription package. These courses are provided to NBS by online continuing education providers who are responsible for maintaining content and accreditations. The topics are broad and current. Many times, they fulfill state and national certification requirements for nursing and EMS certifications/licenses. In addition to NBS courses, your company can upload an unlimited number of education courses, in any format, and assign credit for your employees.

10. What types of Employee Health Events are tracked?

Ninth Brain Suite has defined over 15 different types of Employee Health Incidents to track. These incidents are standard occupational type events, such as immunizations, TB testing, grip test, physical exams, etc. You can also track all of your OSHA Injury/Illness recordable episodes, which will feed to the federal reporting forms. As an added feature, you can design unlimited Employee Health Incident types.

11. What types of alerts are issued, and how are they displayed?

Alerts are displayed on your homepage's Operational Dashboard. They range from notification of pending and/or expired certifications and Quality Improvement Incidents that need your attention to Employee Health reminders. In addition to posting on your homepage's Operational Dashboard, alerts may be set to be delivered by e-mail.

12. What are Ad-Hoc Reports?

Ad-Hoc Reports are reports that you define. This is a great feature of Ninth Brain Suite. The Ad Hoc Report Feature is easy to use, secure, and delivers real-time data to whomever, whenever, and as frequently as you like. Reports you define in NBS can be exported to Excel and saved to your computer. You truly have control over all of the data you input to your Ninth Brain Suite.

13. How is access to data controlled in my company?

Ninth Brain Suite is designed to give you full control over who accesses your company data. Security is assigned from the top down, meaning that the Site Director delegates Module Directors, who in turn delegate administrative access to each area within the module. The hard part is figuring out who gets access to the administrative areas, the easy part is actually assigning the security.
