As a component of the Nation's critical infrastructure, EMS plays a vital role in responding to requests for assistance, triaging patients, and providing emergency treatment to influenza patients often in uncontrolled environments.  Each 9-1-1 and EMS system should seek the involvement of an EMS medical director to provide appropriate medical oversight.  CDC's most recent document provides guidelines to develop local protocols.
